yo ho ho and a bottle of ham
Okay, so, as we are inching ever closer and closer to The Magical Date, I thought I'd take this opportunity to post some information about local hotels and the like, for those of you who choose NOT to crash at the Ozyhaus (for those of you who ARE staying here, drop a comment in this entry and I will email specific address information to you -- you'll forgive me, but my paranoia prevents me from posting my home addy and phone # here, even in a friendslocked entry). If you are staying with Rikki, Betty and I, keep in mind that my house, while comfortable, isn't palatial -- we only have two full baths with toilet/bathtub/shower, and another half-bath, so if a lot of people are crashing here, we'll need to try not to kill each other in a BRADY BUNCH-esque pile-up trying to get into the bathrooms in the morning.)

Ahem. Anyhoo. In case you want a hotel, here are three perfectly decent options, all within a five-minute drive or less from my house. If you're coming from the Indianapolis International Airport, I live on the far northside of Indianapolis, about a 40-45 minute drive from the airport. Let us know if you're flying in so we can make pickup arrangements if'n you're not renting a car.

THE CLOSEST hotel to my house would probably be the Comfort Suites on Thatcher Rd. in Carmel, less than two miles from my house. It's also right across the street, or within easy walking distance, from a few fast food joints such as your basic Mickey D's, Arby's, Burger King, etc., as well as a Wal-Mart and a Target and a liquor joint in the event you feel the need to keep the party going well into the wee hours. Standard amenities like free high-speed wireless in the room, indoor pool, free cable and microwave in the room, yadda yadda. It's a suite hotel, so it's probably a bit on the pricey side, but I couldn't manage to get room rates off tha Intarwebz. Call 'em at 317-575-0000 for more details if you're interested.

THE MOST REASONABLY PRICED non-ratty, no-frills hotel in the immediate area, which is a little further north than the Comfort Suites but is still not more than a five to seven minute drive away, would be the Best Western Westfield Inn, a hop, skip, and-a-jump up US-31 from the Ozyhaus. It's in the middle of a fairly, uhh, industrial district, so it's cozy, clean, new and functional, but don't expect scenery any more exciting than a gas station, a Taco Bell, a McDonald's and a few lumber warehouses and trucking depots. Rooms usually run about $90-95 a night for a single king or two double beds, nonsmoking. Not much in the way of fancy amenities, but it's a place to crash.

THE NICEST hotels available on the north side of Indy are all in a little cluster about three miles to the south of where I live, in the heart of Carmel proper. There are a bunch of business-traveler-oriented hotels up and down what's referred to as "the Meridian corridor" at about the approximate intersection of US-31 and 126th Street, including a Doubletree, a Hampton Suites, and a brand-spanking-new Hilton Garden Inn with room rates that run in the $100-130 a night range including breakfast on the premises and all that junk. Prices are for one king or two queen beds per room.

I'm not putting anything about downtown hotels here; we have everything closer to the heart of the city from Super 8's and Red Roof Inns all the way through a five-star Conrad Hotel, but it's about a good half-hour drive south of me. If you're interested in staying closer to downtown, by all means let me know and I can provide a few suggestions that are close to downtown landmarks like the Speedway, our museums, zoo, ball parks, sports stadiums, malls, and whatnot. But I figure since most of you will be interested in basking in the warm glow of the Rikki and the Betty rather than taking in the sights of Indy proper, I didn't bother.

Hope this helps!

I believe Scott and I (and Nancy by default) would like to crash at your place. I think. Pretty sure.

... ok maybe I don't know, but count us in anyways

You already know my status, which is currently on the fence, or rather on resk's fence. That said, I think maybe doing the list thing that was done for soapmeet might help make things a bit more clear. If we have the three lists again - 100%, someother%, and 0% - that might get people to post where they stand and thus encourage others to go once they see just how many fabulous folks are planning on attending.

No, I do not volunteer to do this. I came up with the idea, that's enough. :P

I forgot to post about my RiOzy house-crashing plans...
